Located in the municipality of Barrika, the Basque farmhouse, or baserri, of Garramune dates back to the 16th century and lends its name to the area now occupied by the Garramune urbanisation. It is a listed building and was rebuilt and refurbished in 2000.
Barrika is a quiet area, hugging part of the coastline on the Bay of Biscay, where you can enjoy gorgeous views of the sea and walks along its towering cliffs of enormous geological importance.
At the foot of the cliffs, there are 7 beaches that are accessible to visitors on foot or by bike.
The district of Uribe Kosta is one of the main leisure areas in Metropolitan Bilbao, where in addition to unbeatable views of the sea, relaxing and playing sport, you are only a thirty-minute ride away by metro from Bilbao, with numerous cultural attractions on offer (Guggenheim, Maritime Museum, Museum of Ethnography and Museum of Fine Arts and several aquariums), then there is the historical Tree of Gernika (the legal setting for the ancient Basque Laws), as well as leisure attractions, such as bowling alleys, cinemas, shopping centres, restaurants, and the local festivals in various towns and villages in the area.
You can reach the Surf Kanp by car, or using bus and metro services. There is, however, a 15-minute walk from Plentzia station, but the bus-stop is only 100 metres away from baserri Garramune.
